Cashless tipping guide

How to tip when you do not have cash.

Not carrying cash should not mean missing the chance to recognize good service. Cashless tipping gives customers several options, but the right choice depends on whether the worker can be identified and paid without interrupting the moment.

01

Common cashless options

Customers may use a payment username, scan a business QR code, open a web tipping page, add a gratuity to a bill, or use a dedicated tipping app. Each option differs in speed, worker identification, fees, and whether the business must participate.

03

When connectivity is weak

Bluetooth can discover a nearby worker without venue Wi-Fi or cellular service. Payment settlement still requires a connection. Gratuitease distinguishes between offline discovery and later connected settlement rather than promising that money moves without the internet.

04

Tip while the service is fresh

The most important design goal is preserving the customer’s intent at the moment of service. A short, understandable flow reduces the chance that the customer plans to tip later and forgets.
