Digital tipping guide

What digital tipping should remove—not add.

Digital tipping replaces or supplements cash with an electronic gratuity flow. The best experience removes friction for the customer while preserving worker recognition, transparent fees, and business control.

01

The basic digital tipping flow

A customer identifies the person or service being tipped, chooses an amount, and authorizes payment through a supported wallet or payment method. The difficult part is often not payment—it is connecting the customer to the right worker quickly and accurately.

02

Discovery matters

QR codes, web pages, and usernames can work, but each introduces a search or identification step. Gratuitease uses Bluetooth proximity to surface eligible nearby workers and place the most relevant worker first.

03

Worker economics should be explicit

A digital tipping provider should state whether it deducts a platform percentage, who pays processing fees, how cashout works, and whether hardware is required. Gratuitease takes 0% of a worker’s tip; Stripe processing fees still apply.

04

Business implementation

Hotels and service businesses may need direct tips, pools, schedules, divisions, manager exceptions, fixed service locations, and reporting. The customer-facing flow can remain simple while those rules operate behind it.
